Q. What sort of screens can I use with CODA?
Anything with a VGA connection, including projectors, plasmas and LCDs. The maximum resolutions supported are 1280x1024 and 1440x900, both at 60Hz and 24-bit colour. At Camvine we like to use 19in displays that have a resolution of 1280x1024.
Q. Why not just use PCs to drive the screens?
Running PCs to do this is high-maintenance. They require software licences and virus-protection that must be kept up-to-date. Configuration can also be complex. In general, it would normally require a technical expert to get a PC-based system up and running and maintained on an ongoing basis. CODA is designed for people who just want to put their stuff on the walls so we've adopted a plug-and-play approach. Our kit has no software and isn't vulnerable to viruses. You just plug it together and manage the content on your screens through our web service. The CODA kit is robust and it uses a fraction of the power of a PC, making it an environmentally responsible option.
Q. Can I connect the screens wirelessly?
Customers often have more issues than they expect when setting up any wireless network. We recommend standard Cat 5 wiring, but you can use ethernet-wireless adaptors or ethernet-over-power adaptors if wanted; these should work with CODA but we don't support them at present.
Q. Do we need special cabling for a CODA system?
No - the existing networking cable found in most modern buildings is perfect for CODA, and you can choose whether to integrate it with your main network (as we do) or keep the system on a network of its own.
Q. How far can the screens be from the CODAbox?
As far as a standard ethernet will reach. The official limit for ordinary cabling is around 100m but you can use switches and other extenders to go much further. Note that the CODAlinks which drive the screens do need to be on the same LAN as the CODAboxes controlling them.
Q. How many screens can I manage with a single CODAbox?
We generally recommend limiting it to 20, but it depends on the nature of your content. For more dynamic content you may wish to restrict it to 5-10. The good news is that you can have several CODAboxes on a single site, so CODA can scale to match your needs!
Q. Can I buy more than five CODAlinks?
Yes, additional CODAlinks can be purchased in packs of five.
Q. Do you have any distributors in my country?
At present, you need to order direct from the UK. Contact us if you need to know shipping charges in advance.
Q. What happens if my internet connection goes away?
The CODAbox caches content locally and will normally keep playing the material it was last asked to play until the connection comes back.
Q. When will CODA support video and animations?
Support for a variety of additional formats is under development and will be rolled out (including to existing customers) over the next 12 months.
Q. I like CODA but want it customised for our particular application. Is this possible?
Yes! We can offer customisation and modification on a contract basis.
Does this cost as much as traditional digital signage systems?
